I've been making music for more than two decades, both as a solo artist (the Baltimore City Paper once called me “Baltimore’s Best Singer/Songwriter,” what feels like a lifetime ago) and with friends in various bands. Links to some highlights are below:
Music I’ve released under my own name can be heard at austinstahl.net. Home-recorded tunes, much of it made on a cassette 8-track, with me playing everything.
My most recent solo release is the single “Blues and Greens.”
My previous LP was Austerity,1 an album of short instrumental pieces, made from repetitive rhythms and interlocking melodies.
Reforester (2018–2020): Three singers, three writers, lots of three-part harmonies. Our mini-album Perpetuity2 can be heard here.
Small Sur (2007–): Spare, lovely folk tunes penned by my friend Bob Keal. I’ve played drums and toured all over and helped record several of the band’s albums. The most recent of those is Labor.3
Mink Hollow (2012–2015): I was one of four singers/writers in this band. Two of my favorite songs of mine are on the Ghostwriting EP,4 including the title track.
Private Eleanor (2001–2007): My indie-pop band and main preoccupation in the ’00s. Lots of music and stuff to dig into at privateeleanor.com.
Reforester (2018–): New thing, in which I drum and sing. First single out now!
